A major Finnish publisher with over a century of tradition and
a member of an extensive media group.
Otava Publishing Company has been a publisher of literature in Finnish since 1890. Today Otava is one of the two largest general publishers in Finland. Otava publishes over 400 new titles by Finnish and foreign authors annually: fiction, non-fiction, books for children and young readers and educational materials. The company’s editorial offices are on Uudenmaankatu in the heart of Helsinki.
Otava has contributed to the introduction of many literary innovations and new trends to the general public, and numerous literary pioneers, considered daring in their day, are now much-loved classic figures. A large number of today’s most distinguished Finnish writers publish with Otava, and their works have been translated into several languages.
Otava is also known and respected for its promotion of talented new writers. The company’s approach to publishing is open-minded yet resolute, ensuring that a varied range of books is available, now and in the future.
Otava Publishing Company is a member of Otava Group. The company was a founding memeber of Otavamedia Ltd (1934, previously known as United Magazines Ltd) and The Great Finnish Book Club (1969). The Great Finnish Book Club is the oldest book club in Finland and the market leader. The company was merged with Otavamedia Ltd on 31 December 2010.
Like Publishing Ltd has been a part of the Otava Group Books division since the beginning of 2006.
